I'm very impressed by btrfs' RAID capabilities. Still getting my head around subvolumes, but seems to have beneficial implications for btrfs' snapshot abilities... New home server is running on a pair of SSDs with RAID1 & a couple big spinning disks for precious family data (R1) & device backups (R0)...

Public, listed corporations, with the rights of people in most markets, are "engines of inequity". They exist to privatise profit and socialise cost. They are anti-Commons, except to the extent that they can leverage the Commons to achieve greater inequity on behalf of their shareholders. As such, it is not in their nature to be allies of "open". They are exploiters, at best. People, if they hope to increase equity (or save our planet), should shun them & instead contribute to communities.

The thought occurs to me: what if we had a "no Xmas tree strike" this year... by my back of the envelop calculation, that'd be a few hundred million carbon sequestering, oxygen belching trees... towards our climate-change-arresting global tree planting goals. Not an inconsequential amount.

Saw this interesting article on a long haul flight over the weekend... Seems that India's Twitterati are moving to Mastodon. Good on them. Wonder why more western Twitter users haven't moved... (I've deprecated Twitter. I do all new posts on Mastodon)

This is the sole water fountain in Dublin airport"s int'l departure wing. Having had to empty all drinking vessels to get through security, clearly the airport expects you to buy a new water bottle from the one monopoly water vendor. Greed and #securitytheater are the main reasons air travel is eye-wateringly unsustainable and generally unpleasant.

Whoa. Someone I know quite well at this conference just showed me this heavy duty craft knife... they found at the bottom of their day pack which was also their carry on for multiple int'l flights. It passed undetected through airport security in 3 countries.

@mdyck where did you all get to? A couple of us, including Dr Singer are heading to the Ferryman...

Given the indelibility of the Internet, a point to ponder: have you or I already made the social media post that will get us "cancelled" or excommunicated or shunned or perhaps even executed for transgressing an as yet unknown set of social mores in our future?

Hello again OERu partners and observers. I think one thing we need to do at is to define what we mean by "open". What is "open"... and what is not.
